White-winged Scoter (male)

A rarity in Arizona, this scoter and a female showed up this winter in Tempe's Kiwanis Park. More common in Alaska and northern Canada, the range map shows a narrow line coming down the California coast and touching western AZ. California's freeways must have been too much for him; so they flew a little farther east in the Grand Canyon state.
